Q: Singulair v. Allegra?
Hey I used to use Claritan/Reactine for my allergies but they stopped working. So the doctor recommended Singulair…for the past two years I’ve gotten them free from the doctor. I’ve run out and really can’t afford to pay $80 for 10 pills especially since I need to take them everday. Are there any cheaper brands ppl know of that work just as well? I’ve heard Allegra used to be a prescription before becoming an over the counter drug. Does it work as well as singulair or better than reactine and such?? I’ve also had the shot…which works but the doctor doesn’t recommend it since it stays in the bloodstream for too long she said :S
A: from personal experience allegra did not help me at all but try it you may find it works for you
Q: Allegra vs. Zyrtec question?
My Rx for Allegra 180mg just ran out, and I can’t afford to go back to the doctors right now. Do you think it would be okay to switch to OTC Zyrtec? Or should I just call my doctor and ask for a refill
Also, even if I do call my doctor, it would be cheaper for me to take the generic OTC Zyrtec than Allegra. The thing is that Allegra really has helped me… are they practically the same drug and should I just give Zyrtec a try?
Thanks in advance for any insight/experiences.
A: They are different drugs but they are both antihistamines. I personally found that zyrtec worked MUCH better for me than allegra, but everyone responds differently to medication.
You can call your doctor and usually they will just phone a refill into the pharmacy, unless they have concerns about your condition.
Or you might want to give the zyrtec a try for a few weeks and see how it works for you
Not sure how much you pay for allegra, but here I get a generic brand of zyrtec at Sam’s Club – $18 for 350 tablets!!! That lasts a year and is the cheapest I’ve ever seen it. The next cheapest is the Walmart generic, 45 pills for $14. So you can compare and see which would be more cost effective for you.
Q: Allegra-D vs. Claritin-D? Generic Allegra-D?
Hi!
I’ve got all kinds of allergies (all pollen and animal hair, basically), and the congestion due to the allergies lead to frequent sinus infections. Because of this, my doctor has been prescribing Allegra-D (12 hour tablet) for years.
Soon, a new year of my health insurance will begin, and that also means I have to pay a high deductible, so I’d like to figure out if it would be cheaper to switch to Claritin-D.
Does someone have experience switching from Allegra-D to Claritin-D?
Is Claritin-D 12 hour or 24 hour better?
About how much do you pay for a month’s worth of Claritin-D (i.e. 60 tablets for 12 hour tablets, 30 tablets for 24 hour tablets), if you don’t mind my asking?
Are there any other products that combine a non-drowsy antihistamine and a decongestant that you can recommend?
Thank you in advance for your help.
A: I am allergic to nature, and have tried every antihistamine on the market.
First, antihistamines are formulated primarily to take care of indoor, or outdoor allergens, or a somewhat random combination of both. It helps to know what your allergies are, and you seem to know, so you’re good there.
Allegra-D is OUTSTANDING at taking care of most of my indoor AND outdoor allergies, although is formulated more towards outdoor allergens. No drowsiness.
Claritin-D is OK at taking care of some of my outdoor and some of my indoor allergies – and is primarily formulated to take care of indoor allergens. Mild drowsiness with some people. Claritin comes in both 12 and 24 hour dosing, but the 12 works approximately 8-12 hours, whereas the 24 works approximately 12 hours
.
Zyrtec – recently OTC (over the counter) – is GOOD at taking care of outdoor allergens, and is primarily formulated to take care of outdoor – with some indoor allergen benefits, however Zyrtec’s formulation causes moderate – extreme drowsiness for many – which is no fun.
Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the approximate cost however, as I haven’t had insurance for years, and because I’m in Texas – I just take a 2 hour drive over the border, avoid the doctors fee for an office call, and I get it all without a prescription – and significantly cheaper.
My allergist suggested Advil (TM) Cold & Sinus for supplementing antihistamines, and for doing a little decongestant work – and I’ve had to use it faithfully for about 20 yrs now.
For my respiratory system and allergy problems, I’d rather pay through the nose for Allegra-D because I know it works, works well, and doesn’t make me drowsy. In my opinion, a small cost savings would NOT make me switch. I like to breathe
.
What you really need to ask yourself is: Just how important is breathing, and what am I willing to pay.
Q: Should i buy my new all season tires now or later?
I need to get 2 new goodyear allegra tires for the spring season when it hits. The tires are on sale right now at canadian tire, its $90 per tire from $120. should i get it now or wait till spring comes? will it be cheaper then or no?
A: how bald are your tires? if they put them on sale once they will put them on sale again
Q: Do I pay forever?
7 years ago, I was arrested in Corsicana Texas . I was arrested for drugs I had a script for from Mexico, but I didn’t kow it was illegal in the states. They told me it was legeal in Mexico when I saw the Dr. I got the scripts filled and they let me past the first 2 check points. They searched my belongings and waved me on. I was pulled over in Corsicana just south of Dallas for speeding. I was doinf 10 miles over the speed lmit. The drugs I had were Allegra, antibotisc, and sommas. The drugs are cheap in Mexico and I got enough for some of the people AI know that can’t go see a dr, let alone pay for the meds. The cop insisited he was going to search my car. O.K. I had a 3/4 pound of pot for my use. Sure I knew it was against the law, but I also thought they needed an excuse to go thru your car. I use the pot for different things, but only in my house. It cost ne the loss of my husband, 7 thousand dollars, five yrs proabation. Now they want more. Do I have to pay forever?
I live in Nebraska. They can’t decide for fear they are stepping on Texas toes. I am already dead, why can’t they let me alone. I did my time.
i don’t need smart ass answers, 10 days after I was arrested my husband died. That is all i have done in my whole misable life, i can see you guys aren’t goning to help. Hope you never do anything wrong in your lifetime, or maybe you like throwing stones at gllass houses. And the one that don’t know what my question is, stop toking and read the heading.
Jerry, you are right, it is a feloney and I don’t lie. I could have left out the part about pot!
Hope none of you live in glass houses!
i am retired. So jobs are no problem for me. What I want to use for medicine in my own body is no ones business but my own. That includes they jaw. I paid dearly for it and they can watch me all they want too. Who cares? NO ONE!!
Robert , You are right! There are MAN made substances that are soooooo much better than I use. The side effects are sooooo much better than the disease themselves. I like feeling sick to my stomach, diarrea, high blood pressure, bleeding ulcers, and they are to many to mention. Law can’t make any money on pot, that is why that it is against the law! DUH!!!
Well, thanks for all the compassion I got from here. Hope you never get in trouble ever. If I am lucky, I will fall dead, sure have been preying for it, but that won’t happen. God is a man too.
A: Yes … you may had a script for your meds in Mexico and yes it is only legal after the 2nd check point , after this it becomes illegal … this is a fact and it stinks worse then a sewer! It is sad not everyone can see a doctor let alone afford the medications they need. Although the government can by drugs for anywhere and have no script for them … the government is a dictatorship … do as I say not as I do!
The Pot was for your own use … for arthritis, sickness to the stomach, glucoma, induce hunger, and a few cancer treatments although the government allows this in treatment centers and by pill form … like I said dictatorship!
If you were not selling it I believe it should of been left alone.
Just my beliefs! The indain tribes use things that only if the government was allowed to metal with would charge them too. These tribes have done this for decades and are excempt from the government metalling! What more do they want? Why? Have you contacted a lawyer about this?
You lost your husband, money, voters rights, and yourself.
People have done murders and gotten alot less. Dictatorship!
This country was once land of the free … not no more! Now they band smoking … yet they still sell it. Stepping on the smokier’s right … the right of life style … there is a law about that. just no smoker’s rights. They need to pick on the drinkers, as they kill more then a smoker. Next the government will be picking on the overweight people. Before you know it if you work in the medical profession you will have to be a certain weight as they will probably say the medical profession reflects on the workers and they have to be fit as an example that they are representing health or so more bull crap! If smoking causes health problems then so does over weight people chance health problems! Drinking causes health related problems too. Give me a break!!!!!
It will not stop … the government is turning this free land into a dictatorship! Do what you have to do. Keep copies of everthing. Sell your place and move somewhere in the middle of no where. Go out when you have to and stock up on like can goods or goods that you can. Plant you a garden and keep animals around for protection and post no tresspassing signs all around you. You may be alone this way but, you will be left alone!
Q: How difficult is it to live with a cat when you have allergies?
I’m moving in with some new roommates next year and one of them has a brand new cat. My allergies are pretty much limited to itchy pallet, running nose watery eyes, nothing really severe, but not something I can live with untreated for the next couple of years.
I’ve spent a substantial amount of (overnight) time at houses with cats but their houses were most likely alot cleaner than what our house of 5 college students will quickly become. Benadryl also helped alot in those situations, but that isn’t something I can take everyday.
I’d love to hear opinions anyone has on daily allergy medication (claritin, reactine, allegra), or anything else you do to survive with your allergies. I work at a pharmacy and you don’t need a prescription for most extra strength allergy medications, as well I can get the generic medications for quite cheap compared to over the counter prices so taking pills everyday certainly isn’t out of the question.
A: Most allergy meds don’t treat “indoor” allergies, like cats and dust mites. They mostly treat allergies to pollens and outdoor issues.
Except Zyrtec. I take zyrtec for my cat allergies, and it is the only medication that has helped me against cats. I don’t get itchy skin, or runny nose or itchy eyes, and can actually pet a cat.
However (I married a man with a cat, and cant’ ask him to get rid of it, besides it kills mice) after a long time of LIVING with a cat (as opposed to being exposed at friend’s houses) I actually developed asthma. Even with the zyrtec, which controls any skin reactions I have, I now use an inhaler. I never needed one before. I am at the point now where even though my skin reaction is fine, my asthma gets worse every year. Being exposed to a cat that I am allergic to has compromised my immune system, and I may have to start taking an asthma preventative, instead of a rescue inhaler. I wouldn’t suggest living with a cat if you don’t have to. It’s really not worth it.
I am not sure if allergy shots are more successful, and can prevent the onset of asthma related to allergies. I haven’t tried the shot route yet, but it looks like I may. I wish we didnt have a mouse problem in our house, because I wouldn’t replace this cat when he passes away. The health issues just don’t seem worth it.
Q: Is it allegeries?
I always have a sinus headache my eyes feel like they could pop out of my head. My nose drains into my throat or gets stuck. This has gone on for 2 years. MY ? is is this allergies to where I could take Claritin D or something cheaper Sinus meds make me to dizzy and allegra d did not work Doc says just take sinus pills
A: Depending on the time of year you experience this, I would say it IS allergies due to pollen. And if it occurs all year, then you might also be allergic to dust, etc. Best thing to do, buy some Claritin D to begin with, and take it. I know it makes you dizzy, but your body will eventually get used to the medication and that should subside. See if it works, and if not, find a different doctor and make an appointment and go see him. It might be something different. Hope this helps!
