Q: Asthma medication problem please help?
I am a severe asthmatic, I have been all my life. I have gone through most of the medication out there and at the moment I am on Symbicort, and it is working better than anything before! My only problem is, I am living in New Zealand temporarily (could be another 4-6 months), and am running out of my Symbicort. I am an Australian citizen, when i left Australia i brought about 5 symbicort puffers with me – thinking it will be enough, but it isn’t. I have looked into getting a prescription in NZ to get some more, but as I am not a NZ citizen, I will be charged around $140 per puffer. This is a price i literally can’t afford. I am used to paying arond $33 in Australia. I have also tried getting a new prescription from Australia over the phone, but they wont do ANYTHING unless I’m there in person.
My Doc prescribed me to take 2 doses twice daily, and when required as a reliever.
Does ANYONE have any ideas what I could do? Please help, I’m running out of time.

A: Try going online to PPARX. It’s an organization that will work with the drug manufacturers here in the United States to either lower or eliminate your out of pocket cost for prescription medicines. (Of course, you’ll still need to see a physician there to obtain a valid prescription, but that’s the easy part.) I’m not positive that they will be able to help you, but it’s worth a try. If PPARX can’t help you in New Zealand, maybe they can put you in contact with someone who can. Being an asthmatic myself who takes Symbicort I understand your panic. Montel Williams(The Montel Williams Show) is the spokesman for PPARX . When you search it on the net, it will bring up numerous companies which do basically the same service. Best of luck to you.

A: go back home mate!! Health comes always first…whatever reason keeps you there

My mother has tried to get some but they will only prescribe it to me in person.

A: I agree with getting someone in Australia to get a script for you and send it. But there are some pharmacies that may coordinate internationally (like they do here in the US) where your regular doctor can call in the medication in Australia and then a pharmacy in NZ can call and have it transferred to NZ.

You are right about not stopping taking it though. Good luck!

Looking for more information about Allergies and Asthma? Try symbicort medication for more information.

Q: does the asthma medication symbicort have sexual side effects? i’m a desperate wife searching for explanation.?
We have been having difficulties for 3 months now. He has been taking symbicort for about twice that long, but its the only change I can pin point.
He has also developed what looks like a dry skin rash on his penis recently.

A: Symbicort has no sexual side effects as far as I know. You can check the PDR or package insert (no pun intended) for the medication but if not listed as a major side effect then it is VERY unlikely to be related. I too am suspiscious of the “rash” on the dangle. Either he is masturbating ALOT or has an STD.

Q: symbicort…asthma medication?
i’ve been taking symbicort almost a month now…this is when i discovered my anxiety. slowly it’s getting more severe to the point im afraid to leave the house. could this be because of symbicort? also rapid heart beat and tightness in my chest?

it seems like there are no good asthma medications out there with little side effects

A: Symbicort contains two medicines pulmicort (steroid) and foradil (bronchodilator). Bronchodilators are known to cause an increase in some people’s heart rate. This can cause you to be uncomfortable and be a bit anxious. I would definitely discuss this with your dr. during your next appt. Do you really need it? How bad is your asthma? Do you get an attack more than 2-3 times a week? If not, then you probably don’t need to take any preventative meds such as advair or symbicort. All you need is a rescue inhaler such as albuterol or combivent when an attack occurs.

Q: Is the asthma medication “Symbicort” (budesonide/formoterol) a preventative or a reliever?
I could swear a doctor told me before that Symbicort was a preventative and that Ventolin (Salbutamol) was the reliever but today my doctor told me that in fact Symbicort is both?! And that in fact people don’t really even need Ventolin and if I am short of breath or feel a tightness on my chest or whatever the one to take is Symbicort and not really Ventolin? This goes against everything I had been told previously (as far as I remember) Is he correct?

Currently I take Ventolin (salbutamol), Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol) and Singulair (montelukast) I had up until a few years ago mild asthma (got adult onset asthma in 2001) then it developed into what I guess you’d call more pronounced asthma. It’s not very bad or anything but I do need to take the asthma medication daily (will take Ventolin 3 or 4 times a day upto 4 puffs each time, symbicort usually only once or twice a day 2 to 4 puffs each time and one singulair tablet) Thanks.
If Symbicort is a reliever AND a preventative then why does someone need Ventolin? Hmmmm…..

A: It’s a preventive.

Q: which medication is better for asthma symbicort or seretide?

A: i have been on both symbicort and seretide. though i like symbicort better (seems to work better, comes in easier packaging to carry around) i think they are both pretty similar.

Q: is Ventolin or symbicort Stronger asthma medication?

A: I think Symbicort would be stronger because it combines 2 medications in the inhaler vs. Ventolin, which only has one.

Q: Does anyone know of possible side effects from using Symbicort?
I have had asthma since I was a child. My doctor suggested that I give Symbicort a try, since it is used to prevent asthma symptoms. I have been using it for about a week and I seem to be experiencing some odd side effects, kind of like the flu (or I actually have the flu).

Is anyone else using this medication, and if so, with or without side effects?

Thanks in advance for your responses!!

A: I don’t use this medication and I do not have asthma, but here are some of the common side effects:

- headaches
- upper respiratory tract infection like the common cold
- throat pain
- stomach pain/ upset stomach
- sinus infection
- flu symptoms
- back pain
- nasal congestion
- nausea/vomiting
- thrush
- diarrhea
- voice change
- muscle spasms
- urinary tract infection
- dizziness
- headaches including migraines and tension headaches

Q: Does anyone know a list of asthma medication that NYS medicaid accepts?
I was taking (Symbicort) to control my asthma and my medicaid didn’t cover it. It covered my rescue inhaler and but not my control medication. Does anyone know where i can find a list that covers my asthma control medication?

A: for Asthma: http://www.webmd.com/asthma/default.htm
-Advair Diskus
-Albuterol
-Asmanex
-Foradil
-Flovent
-Prednisone
-Pulmicort
-Singulair
-Symbicort
-Ventolin
-Xolair
-Xopenex

I use albuterol and medicaid covers it and Ventolin, I also use Asmanex (all are cover by medicaid)

***I live in Queens, New York

Your doctor can tell you what medication is covered. The doctor should prescribe according to the insurance that you have!

Q: I’m taking Symbicort, but I still start to wheeze every three-four hours?
Is it because I was just recently (within the last three days,) put on the medication?
Is it safe for me to use my other inhaler, (Proventil,) when I start to wheeze?

A: absolutely use your inhaler when you are wheezing. That’s what it’s for. The Symbicort helps prevent an attack and is not to be used during one. It will do nothing. If the proventil isn’t helping after a few puffs then go to the ER. Let them give you nebulizer treatments. That should clear it up. If it is happening frequently, like every day call your doctor so he/she can change your medicine around to something that does work.
Please remember what I said about the Symbicort, do not take that when you are wheezing. Only use the proventil. Take the Symbicort as your doctor ordered it one or two times a day.

Q: I was told by a friend that using asthma medication causes you to grow facial hair- is that true??
She told me that medications such as Symbicort and Ventolin (which btw are used to treat asthma) cause you to grow facial hair- is that really true?

A: No, definitely not.

Q: how long does it take for the medication to work
i have been taking zithromax for 4 full days and i have been taking symbicort for 6 days for broncitus but nothing seems to be working. its as if i am getting worse. how long does it take for the medication to make effect.

A: it should have already have worked. Maybe your body does not accept those drugs. Are you having any side effects? You should consult your physician or look up drug information online for those drugs. You should also look at the pamphlets you should have got with your prescriptions.

Q: Can Asthma medication affect pregnancy or getting pregnant?
My wife has asthma and she takes the ventilin inhaler and another drug named symbicort. Can these affect pregnancy or affect conceiving?

A: I don’t think so. I also have asthma, just a mild case and it didn’t affect my pregnancy with my son. I am also currently pregnant again. I’ve been sick this past few weeks and have had to use my inhaler – albuterol.

Asthma medication is one of the OK medicine to take while pregnant.

Q: Does excessve allergy and asthma medication reduce one’s attention span?
For my allergies and asthma, I use one symbicort puff and a nasal spray (two sprays); I do the whole thing once I awake and before I sleep. I’ve started it again recently and noticed that I’ve started to lose focus in my work, is there a connection?
I noticed that my allergy meds both contain some form of steroids….??

A: No they should not. They do have steroids in them but since they are targeted into the nose and into the lungs they do not have those side effects.

Q: Taking Symbicort and Pro Air, but still wheezing and having chest pains after only four hours…?
What do I tell my doctor? I’m pretty sure that I shouldn’t -still- be wheezing and coughing etc.

Does this mean that I need a different medication? If so, what kind? Because the only two meds that I’m on right now are Symbicort and Pro Air.

A: Hi I’m a Respiratory Therapist. You need to tell your doctor that your medications aren’t helping your asthma. If you notice that it’s getting worse you need to get to the emergency room.

As long as your doctor prescribed your medication to be taken every 4 hours it is normal for you to start wheezing when it’s time again. Depending on how long you have been on the medication, your body has to get used to it.

If I am not mistaken, Symbicort is your maintenance drug right? That’s supposed to help you not have too many asthma attacks, but it’s not for an emergency situation Pro Air is. Symbicort will eventually make your attacks less since your body will be used to it. Also, using a spacer helps get the medicine into your lungs.

Still I advise you if your asthma symptoms don’t clear up or get worse even after taking your medication, you need to go to the emergency room.

I can’t advise specifically what medication might work for you because some people have different reactions to different medications. If you don’t like an inhaler, your Doctor can prescribe a nebulizer treatment, but most people don’t like them because they take too long. There are many choices out there though. For maintenance one of the most popular ones out there is Adviar. For rescue medications there are Albuterol, Xopenex, Atrovent, Intal, Combivent, and Asthmacort. There is also a pill you can take call Singulair if you have allergies too. A lot of people say that takes care of their asthma symptoms. Remember which ones you can take depends on your doctor and your body.

Below is some information on Symbicort and a general site about more asthma medications.

Q: Are Symbicort, Ventolin & Prednisone save to take while pregnant?
I just found out yesterday that i have athsma. Are these medications safe to take while i’m pregnant?
Just so everyone knows… I have called my doctor’s office and they’re office is closed until tomorrow

A: You would be much better off asking your Doctor or Midwife as opposed to asking a bunch of unqualified strangers who know nothing at all about about your medical history.

Q: asthma medication?
I am going to see my daughters doctor tomorow to talk about swithching asthma medication. Because her asthma is not controlled. She is on symbicort. Can anyone tell me a medication that may work slightly better than this one? To all those Singular users out there are you happy with this?

A: If her asthma is not in good control, you need to look at things other than her medications.

Are you doing everything you can to control her triggers?

Are you using the medication correctly?

Are you tracking her status through peak flow meter measurements?

Have you “cleaned” her environment of potential triggers (stuffed animals, carpeting, pets, smoking, covers on pillows, etc?)

I can discuss this in detail if you want. Just email me at rhubarb3142@yahoo.com

Looking for more information about Allergies and Asthma? Try symbicort inhaler for more information.

Q: Asthma: What are your thoughts on Symbicort inhaler?
I’d like to know what people think of symbicort inhaler, if you have been prescribed it before. Good or bad? And why?!

Thanks!

A: ive been using it for over twelve months now without any problem as i start the day with spriva one dose and three doses of 320/9 micros of symicort my breathing as eased a lot and a major plus unlike othere inhalers its steriod free

Q: Does anyone know the North American equivalent to the German asthma inhaler ‘Symbicort’?
I used a very effective inhaler in Germany called Symbicort. I’m looking for the North American equivalent.

Does anyone know what the equivalent is?

A: Symbicort should be available in the US this summer. Ask your doctor and pharmacist about it.

http://www.symbicort-us.com/

If for some reason you cant get it, Advair is like symbicort with two medications in one dry powder inhaler.

Q: Asthmatics- Have you recently been given a new type inhaler called Symbicort?
How are you getting on with it.
I hate mine it tastes horrible and I have to rinse my mouth every time I use it and it still makes my tongue sore.
Do you think my doc will let me go back to my old brown clenil inhaler?

A: yeah i got symbicort have had no probs with it. its much better than clenil try and stick with it or else you could try seretide this was great for me for ages

Q: Does asthma cause snoring? I was wondering because when I do not use my symbicort inhaler People say I snore!?
They say they do not notice any snoring, and that is usually when I have taken my inhaler Thanks for your answers!.

A: asthma doesn’t cause snoring

Q: Can I continue using my symbicort inhaler past the expiry date?
I have very mild asthma. I have been prescribed symbicort to use when I have problems which is very rare – seemingly only when I get a cold once or twice each year.

I have a chest cold now and needed to use my inhaler for the first time in ages. I noticed it expired last spring, but I took a puff anyway and it seemed to work. I still have 3/4 of the symbicort left (80 of 120 doses) so I would prefer to not have to fork out another $100 (no benefits unfortunately) if I don’t absolutely need to.

Anyone know if I am might be doing damage using past the expiry date?

Thanks!!

A: They have a large fudge factor on those expiration dates. So relax and do it.Also, go see your doc he/she might want to take a look at you.

Q: Symbicort inhaler for asthma, advice please…?
I understand that a side effect of symbicort could be depression…. I am really interested to know if anyone has experienced this side effect from taking it?

I have been on symbicort for over a month and have notice a change in my perceptions and moods. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did it ease with time?
*It’s not necessarily depression, I have just noticed a change in my moods.

A: I have been on symbicort for over 5 years now. I have never had any side effects and it has really got my asthma under control.

Q: who gained weight on symbicort inhaler 160?

A: ALL steroids will make you gain weight. A rise in cortisol natural or fake will raise levels of insulin tremendously.

Q: symbicort inhaler 160 makes me hoarse couple hrs per day. anyone else experience this? any cures?

A: Symbicort contains steroids… The proper procedure of taking it is Rince ur mouth and throat thoroughly by gargling after taking it… this is because, around 95% of the drug settles down in the throat and only 5% of it goes into lungs and acts… In the throat it causes supression of the local immunity and can cause infection.. Most commonly candidiasis.. So this is making u feel sore or hoarse….
For this what u have to do is
1) Consult ur doctor and get it checked whether u have got any candidiasis, if yes, get it treated.. it can be treated easily..
2) If any other infection, consult ur gp again for appropriate antibiotics..
3) start practicing correct method of inhalation…

Q: Can Symbicort lengthen menstrual cycle?
I have been using Symbicort Inhaler for a couple of weeks and my cycle has lengthened from my average of 25 days to 31 days and I still have not gotten my period. I have not had sex this last cycle so I cannot be pregnant. Does anyone know if Inhalers can affect your cycle?

A: Yes, it can have the potential to lengthen the cycle because of the cortisone that is in it (if that is one of the active ingredients in the medication).

I had something like this happen to me and my doctor asked if I was taking steroids in the injections I was getting from the Pain Management doctor.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.

Q: Any Indian substitute for SYMBICORT TURBUHALER (budesonide/formotorel)INHALER from SWEDEN.?
It is an inhaler from Sweden with 60/120 inhaling dozes containing some inhaling powder for Asthamatic disease.
Can you pl. suggest some India made tablet or inhaler of similar value?

A: They should have this drug available in India, just from a different manufacturer.
If you can’t find it, go to the nearest pharmacy and see if there’s something comparable that will work instead.

Q: I am 52 yr male diagnised as asthma patient. Dr prescribed inhaler named”SYMBICORT” Budessonite formoterol?
Some times i use it sometimes no. But when i feel heavy in my chest i use this inhaler or sometimes Nebulizer using 2ml Combivent or Pulmicort.

Now my question is using inhaler or nebulizer gives the same benefit or Ihaler is more powerful than the nebulizer.

Cos some Drs say using Inhalers can cause dependence on inhalers and person will get FAt which is true in my case.

So any body used the two can tell me the difference so dat i will not buy the inhaler or not use the nebulizer if i find out which is more safer and powerful for asthma.

  Thank you god bless

A: Simply read the instructions written by the pharmacist on the package the medications came in. Use the nebulizer as directed, 2 or 3 times a day. Take the Symbicort as directed, usually twice a day. You could take the Symbicort after the nebulizer treatments for maximum effectiveness. Of course if the Symbicort is only ordered twice a day and the nebulizer is ordered three times then it would be best to use the Symbicort after the first and last treatment.
The inhaler, you should carry with you all the time. This is for emergency use like if you’re at work and you get short of breath you take a couple of puffs of the inhaler for relief.
By using your medications properly you should have fewer and fewer problems.
God bless.

Q: Symbicort making asthma worse?
My symbicort inhaler has actually always helped me, but the past few days after I use it my lungs feel like they are closing up. I usually take two puffs each dose and this morning my I was so scared i was about to close up completely after the first puff that I used my rescue inhaler which then opened my lungs up.

Whats the deal? Should I keep using it?

A: Maybe you developed a inhalational sensitivity to the powder .. I am not sure why this happens … but there is some anectdotal evidence that this happens ….

You may want to try taking your rescue inhaler first … then taking your symbicort 15-20 minutes later …. this maybe just that your airways are a little more “twitchy” than usual ….. you may want to make a visit with your doctor and discuss your concerns and findings…..

My overriding concern is that you do not take your medicine and if your on a fringe of a severe bronchial hyperresponsiveness episode, this may tip you into a hospital admission or an ER visit …. not saying that it will … but .. better safe than sorry?

Q: Whats the difference between symbicort= budesonide/formoterol and oxis formoterol?
I know that symbicort has formoterol in it as well as budesonide, but why us there also a formoterol oxis inhaler as welll, which ine would be more effective? and what does each of these drugs do differently

A: There is evidence that COPD rather than asthma patients may benefit from Oxis alone, getting little from the inhaled steroid. It also allows the flexibility of adding further doses and intermediate doses of Oxis, which can also be used as a reliever to the fixed Symbicort dose.

Q: Can I put an expired asthma inhaler in my carry-on luggage? Or would it cause suspicion?
I was wondering if I could carry-on an EXPIRED Symbicort 200 Turbhaler (Asthma inhaler)…

A: The TSA is not in the habit of checking expiration dates on prescription drugs when they inspect your luggage, so you will be fine.

Q: Is Symbicort too strong of a medicine?
I am asthmatic and this year has been particularly rough. Still, I have never needed more than a steroid inhaler and albuterol every 2-3 years. A doctor prescribed Symbicort to me this week but It seems to be a really strong medicine. Has anybody ever taken it and felt the same way?

A: oh i know what you mean, i recently gotten bronchitis. it helps it starts working in 15 minutes. heres a site of the simple things to know.

Q: I take symbicort. The box said 1 puff twice a day but the generic instruction manual said 2 twice a day.?
I took two puffs this morning and I should have taken one. I did not repeat the process tonight so I do not overdose. Am I okay. I will continue the normal process tomorrow.

A: You don’t want to miss with corticosteroids, you should better ask your doctor.

Q: Symbicort is to much money?
Is there any Medications out there that work like the Symbicort? Because I have limited benefits at work and now it will not cover my Symbicort prescriptions. I did go to the web site and did the discount on line but it only good for one free refill. It about 265.00 per inhaler. Is there any generic brands that’s compare to the Symbicort. I can’t afford it. I suffer from asthma.
Thanks

A: Symbicort is made of 2 drugs….pulmicort and foradil. You can check with your doc and see if he can give a prescription for the 2 drugs seperately instead of the combination (symbicort). It is much cheaper that way…from what I remember you can get it for less than 1/2 of what Symbicort would cost.

Q: Life without insurance?
I recently made the decision to not only move out of my parents house, but to move out of state. I’m 21 years old, have 2 years left of college, and my parents are currently paying for my cell phone, health and car insurance. They are very strongly against my moving and (as they should) are cutting me off. I have found some great deals on car insurance, but it’s the health I’m worried about. My job doesnt offer health insurance and I wasn’t super worried about it until I found out that there is no generic version of a medicine I cannot live without. I am a severe asthmatic and take Symbicort. I cannot go without it, but there is not generic version. Is anyone with asthma living without insurace? Any advice for a gal trying to make it on her own without insurance?

A: You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here – health-quotes.talk4fun.net

Q: Bronchitis or allergies?? it’s been over 2 months help!!?
I’m 19, college student, a non-smoker! So I’ve had bronchitis since right before finals at the end of April..and I’m still sick. I’ve been on four different sets of medicine…from 3 different doctors:

1st: Amoxicillin, Mucinex, generic nasal sprays
2nd: Levaquin, some shot that would kill strep throat, cough drops..
3rd: A mix of Amoxicillin + something else, Symbicort (inhaler), Dexpak (anti-inflammatory), Mullein herb
4th: Another antibiotic..I think Minicillin or something, Symbicort (inhaler), Omnaris (nasal spray), Clarinex (allergy pill)
5th: Prednisone (steroid/anti-inflammatory), Astepro (nasal spray)

On top of all those medicines, I normally take birth control pills (for cramps) and sleep-aids because I always have trouble sleeping..so I’ve been on lots of drugs as you can see..

SOO the 4th batch of medicines obviously weren’t working so I went back to my doctor and that’s where the 5th batch of goodies came from. However, i took my first doses of each last night, and the Prednisone made me really bitchy and the Astepro left a horrible taste in the back of my throat and mouth so I couldn’t breathe without wanting to throw up.. so I’m planning on stopping those for now. I wouldn’t want to get fired from my internship for being a bitch.

My doctor thinks it’s allergies because my nasal passages are really backed up, and he thinks the mucus is draining into my throat causing me to cough. He thinks maybe I’m allergic to something at work (interning at Frito-Lay, so I’m exposed to warehouses and stuff constantly). He diagnosed me with bronchitis at first, but now doesn’t think it is because he said my lungs sounded clear and I passed my breathing test..

can someone please help me??? I don’t think it’s good for my body to take different cocktails of medicines continuously…it’s been like 3 months already… still consistently coughing up phlegm and have really bad nasal congestion..

I don’t want school to start and I still be sick.. HELP!!

A: I know what I’m going to say will sound absurd to you but
have you heard about Silverbiotics? You can get it at GNC or vitaminshoppe.

It’s non toxic silver solution used to MRSA infections that are antibiotic resistant and used to treat so many bacteria/virus related issues.
Trust me take what it says on the bottle for a few weeks and they will go away.

Here’s the legit research of combining antibiotics and Silverbiotics to treat various illnesses and conclusion finds that taking them both have either synergistic/additive qualities to kill bacteria/virus.

http://www.ias.ac.in/currsci/oct102006/926.pdf

AND NO. DON’T TAKE PREDNISONE. IS THERE DOCTOR SERIOUS? I’m a pre-med student and wow.
Prednisone suppresses your immune system so that you don’t react to the bacteria/virus infection that’s in your system.
That’s the worst drug. And it will cause bloating, moon face, osteoporosis(if taken for long term), depression, etc.

Q: Asthma, 10 weeks premature, do I need MedicAlert? (details)?
I already have a medical ID bracelet, but I saw an asthma educator/respiratory therapist and she said if I ever go to the emergency room, I need to tell them I was born ten weeks premature and make sure they realize I was born in 1991 (which apparently makes a big difference).
My current ID bracelet is from Vital ID, and has a strip of paper in it that says I my name, that I have asthma, that I’m an organ donor and has two emergency contact numbers, and my medications. However, it doesn’t have enough room for other details of my medical history.

For my asthma I take Symbicort 200/6 2-4 puffs twice daily (I adjust treatment for flares), and Singulair 10 mg, as well as 2 puffs of Ventolin as needed. I also have retinopathy of prematurity and wish to be an organ donor. With my medical history, as well as the fact that if I were in an emergency the RT thinks they should know I was premature (oxygen, ventilator, NICU after birth, etc). I’ve had asthma for two years (I’m 18), and have been on prednisone once, and have never gone to the ER for my asthma. (Although, we asthmatics are notorious for pushing things . . .)

What of this information do I need engraved on a medical ID bracelet? Should I get a MedicAlert bracelet with the hotline number considering my history, or is a generic one okay?

Thanks.

A: I think your ID bracelet should include information that will influence ER doctors’ medical decisions if you were brought in unconscious. Although I’m not familiar with the significance of 1991, the details of your prematurity (ventilator, ROP) and your wish to be an organ donor would not likely change how the docs would treat you. I think you’re okay leaving the ID as-is.

Question Details: What ALL does this Advair Diskus Warning Mean???
Read this ALL please& Than Answer:

Rarely, serious(sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems have occurred with the use of long-acting inhaled beta agonists(e.g.,salmeterol)… product contains salmeterol in combination with fluticasone(a corticosteriod)It is not known if adding corticosteriod changes this risk. Therefore patients with asthma, this drug should only be prescribed when one long-term medication(e.g. inhaled corticosteriods)does not control breathing problems or when more than one long- term medication is clearly needed to control breathing problems. Before using this medication, it is important to learn how to use it properly.Discuss the risks and benefits of treatment with this medication with your doctor.

What ALL does it mean???
I’m so worried about taking it :*( :*( :*(

A: Don’t worry about it. I have been taking that discus for almost 3 years now, twice a day, everyday. What it means is that there is a slight risk because it is a steroid, but it is quite safe. The only thing you do NEED to do is rinse your mouth out after using it, because the powder you inhale could cause thrush (a mouth infection). Don’t worry, it is great and has really helped my asthma a lot! Good luck to you!

What ALL does it mean???

I’m so worried about taking it but I was prescribed it.

A: It basically means that not everyone can use this medication. Some people may have an allergic reaction to one of the ingrediants. Some people may find the drug does not help their asthma.

There are similar (or even more horrifying) warnings on every drug made.

What’s more important with advair (which I’ve taken for years) is that you shake it well, hold it level, breathe in, do NOT breathe out into the canister, and rinse your mouth afterwards.

Q: For People Who Are On ADVAIR DISKUS?
Hi,
(1.) Have u been on any other prevetive asthma attack medince before u went on Advair???
(2.) If so what???
(3.) And did u talk to your doctor about this :
ADVAIR contains salmeterol. In patients with asthma, medicines like salmeterol may increase the chance of asthma-related death. So ADVAIR is not for people whose asthma is well controlled on another controller medicine.
(4.) If so what did he or she say about it???
I’m afraid to take it because of that but my doctor really wants me to.I wasn’t tested for asthma but I took prednoise pills for it & it helped so my doctor said thats what I have.
(5.) Did u get a test done to see if u had asthma???
(6.) What are ALL your asthma symptoms???
(7.) What inhaler do u use for asthma???
Please reply soon.
Thanks

A: 1, 2. Yes, I am on the pill Singulair. I know I was on some kind of steroid inhaler before, but the name escapes me.

3, 4 Yes, and technically I shouldn’t answer this question because I *used to* be on Advair. It didn’t do much for me, and because of the hypothetical risks, and cost, we dropped it. My Brother The Doctor (family practice) only recommends Advair if other stuff doesn’t work.

5. There is no real test for asthma. If someone has the symptoms, you treat it like asthma, if you get better, Bingo!

6. Shortness of breath and wheezing, usually induced by: (a) exercise and (b) certain allergies (dust, pollen, something blooming every spring).

It can progress to a persistent (like for months) cough, when that gets bad I can’t sleep at night unless propped up.

The symptoms get worse when I lie down, better with warm, moist air.

Since I monitor myself, I’ve never had to have a full fledged attack, where I couldn’t breath and have to get taken to the hospital.

7. I have Albuterol for treating the symptoms/when things get bad. I take Singular daily as prevention. As a side note, I also drink lots of water when I am symptomatic. It seems to help loosen things up in my chest.

Also – my pulmonologist said to avoid cough suppressants whenever possible. He said they just make it harder to get the stuff out of your lungs (my simplification). I do take expectorant when I’m coughing, it does help.

There is a lot of information on how to live well with your asthma, the National Institute of Health link below could be a good starting point.

Q: About Asthma ADVAIR DISKUS Medince?
(1.) What ALL does this mean:

Rarely, serious(sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems have occurred with the use of long-acting inhaled beta agonists(e.g.,salmeterol)

(2.) Does that mean that u can have a really bad asthma attack using this medince where u will be making noise when your breathing & everyone willl know that your having a really bad asthma attack???

(3.) If that was going to happen after taking the medince when would it???
(4.) If someone was going to have worseing of breathing after taking a medince when would they???

(5.) How do u know if your having wroseing of breathing from a medice or an asthma attack???
Since having wrosening of breathing is an asthma attack???

Please Answer ALL 5 Questions.
Everyone!!!

A: 1) Salmeterol (Serevent) is not a rescue medication. Because it takes about a half hour to take effect, if you use Salmeterol for an asthma attack, it won’t work like an Albuterol inhaler would. When you’re having an asthma attack, never take Advair to treat it. Use your rescue inhaler. Inhaled steroid, like the Flovent in Advair, is also not a rescue medication.

2) What this means is that Salmeterol is not for use as a rescue medication. If someone was to use it like that, it might not work fast enough to do anything about an asthma attack. Therefore, taking Salmeterol for an asthma attack is almost as bad as doing nothing about it. Using your rescue inhaler is recommended.

3) If you took Advair to treat an asthma attack, you might not get relief from it.

4) Bronchodilators (like Serevent and Albuterol) do have a potential side effect of bronchoconstriction/bronchospasm. In my experience, I haven’t seen it happen yet. Sometimes a stronger bronchodilator might be needed, if Albuterol isn’t strong enough for rescue. Xopenex is often used in that situation. If you knew that your symptoms would worsen when using a medication, logically I would not use it. Getting a doctor’s appointment and asking about switching to something else is a good idea if that happens.

5) If you take your medication and nothing happens, that’s a good sign that your asthma is getting worse or your medication is losing effect (it happens rarely). Generally, I think that worsening of breathing and asthma attacks are similar enough to warrant the same treatment.

I was on Advair 500/50 for a few months. I found that it was safe and effective. One thing I noticed was that I had little spots of blood on tissues when I blew my nose. It was a bit weird, but actually is a side effect.

When taking an inhaled steroid, it’s extremely important to gargle/rinse your mouth after you take it, then spit the water out. I’ve seen some patients I treated swallow the water after rinsing and I did it too, for a short time. My stomach was upset by this. I don’t recommend swallowing the rinse water.
Not doing this can lead to thrust (fungus on your tongue) developing. It’s something that you can also combat by brushing your tongue and using mouth watch.

It sounds like you’ve been reading the product manuscript or the information form that came from your pharmacy. Good job! Informed patients are a good thing. What you need to understand about the information you were provided with is that severe side effects are rare or happen when the medication is not used properly. I would keep in mind what the side effects are, so that you will know if it’s related to what you’re experiencing.

An alternative to Advair is Symbicort. It comes in a variety of strengths, just as Advair does. The advantage to Symbicort is that it has been approved (in Canada and Europe, I don’t know about the US) for use as a rescue inhaler too. In effect, all you would be using is Symbicort. There have been studies showing that the Pulmicort (inhaled steroid) in Symbicort helps to reduce the severity of an asthma attack over time. This happens because, the patient takes their Symbicort for an asthma attack, then is fine. The dose of inhaled steroid they just took helps prevent further asthma attacks. I like the idea of it. I feel that Symbicort as a long-acting controller and as a rescue inhaler will revolutionize asthma treatment like Advair did when it came out. There is a possibility that asthmatics might only need one inhaler for all purposes. That’s a lot simpler than knowing how to use an Advair diskus and an Albuterol inhaler. Less patient education is then required for them to be able to use their devices properly. Advair is great though, too. I’m not discounting it at all. It just isn’t meant to be used during an asthma attack under any circumstances.

Everyone!!!

A: First of all it says RARELY, meaning the chances of this happening to you are HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

Second of all it is a little hard to draw many conclusion from this one sentence of information on that drug that you have provide
BUT
I would say it means that just IN CASE you were to get breathing problems, they would be asthma-related. I think they are just saying that so you know that if you get breathing problems you don’t freak out or anything and think you are like dying. You will know it is from the medicine, you will discontinue the said medication and go see your doctor.

Also I am guessing you will see whether or not this medicine is going to give you a bad reaction within the first couple days of taking it.

Also I would like to note that almost ANY pharmaceutical you are going to take has its risks and side effects. Your doctor does not usually tell you about the scary ones, because the really weird or scary ones are usually very rare.

Everyone!!!

A: I suppose if you had a medicine triggered asthma attack, it would probably happen right after you inhaled the medicine.I’m pretty sure you have to be allergic to the medicine for it to trigger an asthma attack, so that would mean, you would probably notice an allergic reaction(i.e. the asthma attack) within the first few uses. So that means, if you’ve been using the medicine for a while, chances are you are probably not going to have an attack because of the medicine. Regardless, if you do have an really bad asthma attack, you can probably discuss with your doctor what triggered it.

Q: Mr. Usher takes the following regimen for his asthma?
Advair 250/50 1 puff bid. what should Mr. Usher do after taking his dose of Advair? how much fluticasone and salmeterol would Mr. Usher receive in 1 month? which 2 brand name drugs does Advair Diskus replace?

A: After taking his dose of Advair, he should be sure to rinse his mouth out, as Advair can cause thrush (a superficial infection of the skin and mucous membranes in the mouth). It is a yeast infection. It can cause inflammation and discomfort.

How much medication he receives in one month depends on the number of days that month: 56 inhalations in February (58 if it is a leap year), 30 inhalations in months with 30 days, and 62 inhalations during the 31 day months.

The two brand name medications the Advair Diskus replaces are Flovent and Serevent.

I hope this answer was helpful!

Q: Edit this into correct english please.. 10 points!?
Advair Diskus is an inhaled drugs contains Fluticasone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, and Salmeterol, a bronchodilator of the beta-2 agonist type. Fluticasone works by prevent the release of substances, while Salmeterol works by relaxing muscles in the airways to improve breathing.
Advair Diskus is a prescription drugs used to treat Asthma and Chronic Bronchitis.
Advair Diskus’s generic drugs are Fluticasone/Salmeterol or other name that contain this active ingredient. Sold at much lower price than it branded counterpart. The calculation below will show you.

A: “Advair Diskus is an inhaled DRUG THAT contains Fluticasone, an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, and Salmeterol, a bronchodilator of the beta-2 agonist type.
Q: ADVAIR DISKUS WARNING Means???
What ALL does this Advair Diskus Warning Mean???
Read this ALL please& Than Answer:

Rarely, serious(sometimes fatal) asthma-related breathing problems have occurred with the use of long-acting inhaled beta agonists(e.g.,salmeterol)This product contains salmeterol in combination with fluticasone(a corticosteriod)It is not known if adding corticosteriod changes this risk.

Does it mean if your asthma gets wroser when on that medince that it can cause death from that??

What ALL does it mean???
I’m worried about taking it but was prescribed it.

A: They don’t know what causes it for sure but when you take this drug your chances of having a life threatening asthma attack are much higher. I have tried ADVAIR and I don’t like it, I will stick to my albuterol inhaler even it I have to use it more often. You may have a choice, tell your doctor you would prefer not to take this medication. Albuterol + inhaled steroid might be just as good for you.

Q: Most effective treatment for Nasal polyps and Maxillary sinusitis?
I have DNS and allergic rhinitis. Budesonide nasal spray has any advantage over others for treating polyps?

A: Why don’t u try taking Homeopathy I can assure u that it’ll b treated totally and u’d b relieved in no time off those polyps without any harmful steroids and /or any operation etc it’ll take time but it’ll get cured please consider taking homeopathy medicine it’ll b really b beneficial for ur problem…

I had been detected with Sinus problem and when i went for check up I was diagnosed with some other issue it was some growth of 3-4 small nodes in my throat and thus I had almost had lost my voice so I was told that I’d have to go thru very minor operation to get rid of those but i just went to my homeopathy doctor showed him my X-Rays and he just gave me medicines for just a month and everything was back to normal no nodes nor did i suffer from my sinus either no problem ever occured at all…this is why I’d suggest well it’s ur choice tho newayz best luck and take care.

Q: I have runny nose every morning, any alternatives to corticosteroids?
I am using Budesonide nasal spray, which is a corticosteroid. Having in mind all the side effects that I might have I would like to find a natural alternative for my problem. Any suggestions?

A: While there is a wide array of prescription and over-the-counter medications available on the market that promise to dry a runny nose, they don’t always work and often come with unwanted side effects. So, try stopping your next runny nose in its tracks with safe, affordable and effective natural treatments. Read on to learn how to treat a runny nose with natural medicine.

Things You’ll Need:

Elderberry
Fresh mint
Yarrow root
Cayenne pepper
Andrographis tablets
Fresh watercress
Fresh ginger

Step 1

Drink a natural herbal tea, two or three times a day, to help bring a runny nose to a halt. Boil 1 cup of water with one teaspoon of elder berry, 1 tsp. of fresh mint, 1 tsp. of yarrow root and 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper for five minutes. Strain the herbs and allow the tea to cool. Keep your handkerchief handy, because this tea will make your nose run even more at first, but you symptoms will soon dry up.

Step 2

Take 400 mg of andrographis three times a day before meals to help dry a runny nose. Andrographis is a natural homeopathic treatment that is often called “Indian Echinacea,” as it shares many of the same curative properties. Andrographis is readily available in natural food stores or from your naturopath.

Step 3

Eat 1 oz. of fresh watercress twice a day to naturally relieve a runny nose. Watercress also works to soothe a cough and can be eaten as is, added to a salad or made into tea. To make tea add 2 or 3 tsp. of dry watercress to boiled water, allowing the tea to steep off heat for five minutes before straining and drinking.

Step 4

Peel a small piece of ginger, about the size of a piece of bubble gum, and gently chew the root, swallowing the juice. Ginger warms the body

Q: Severe Allergies; Cant eat without getting sick!!?!?
My allergies have hit me really bad this spring. The doctor put me on Ventolin & Flovent inhalers, and also some nasal spray called Budesonide. But since I’ve been taking these, I haven’t been able to eat without getting sick. I had poutine earlier at the mall, and I eat poutine there ALL the time, and I was in a store looking at clothes and all of a sudden, I felt the color come out of my face, and felt very faint and like I was going to throw up right then and there…. I was RUNNING to the bathroom, I ALMOST threw up in the middle of the food court. It felt like a wave of nausea, just hit me, and it happened a few more times today but not as bad as in the mall. I cant even eat food. I’ve been eating tiny portions of food trying to keep it down. I’ve been hack up a lung cuz of a dry cough and I also cannot stop sneezing!!

Is it the inhalers making me sick? Maybe my allergies??

A: Geez it sounds like you’re having a miserable time of it. I would consult a pharmacist and see if the drugs you’re taking have any side effects like vomiting and nausea. If they do then it’s probably the drugs that are making you feel sick. You may also want to call the doctor’s office to see what they recomend

Q: I am having a bad sore throat. I need advise..?
Hi all,

I been having a terrible sore throat which now lasted till a month. Anyone of you came across such pain in the throat before? I actually recovered from my sore throat about 5 days back and it came back yesterday morning. I suspected must be the nasal spray which contains budesonide which is now causing my throat to pain. I went to 2 doctors and both gave me antibiotics and nothing worked until I took the chinese herbal tea and i got well. And now, I’m having it again.. sigh..

Do you think this is normal or should I seek the specialist? My nose is blocked that is why i used the nasal spray. unknowingly, the cause of budesonide cause me to have this sore throat and i stopped using the spray.

I need your opinions to those who had experienced such situation before.

A: Most likely it is post-nasal drip that is causing the sore throat. You indicate that your nose is blocked. You need to find out why, and try to treat it. If the Chinese herbal tea works, great!

There are also over-the-counter and prescription antihistamines and decongestants you can try. I find that a few days of Sudafed or the related generic can be helpful. Gargling with salted water and/or mouthwash also help the sore throat temporarily.

Butesonide is a steroid and has a lot of side effects. If your doctor is giving you that, you need to have a discussion about how to treat your allergies long term. Or see a specialist. It is time to resolve this problem. Find out what is causing your nose problems! You will have this nose for a long time and need to come to some sort of agreement with it…

Q: USE ALLERGY IMMUNOTHERAPY OR SOMETHING ELSE”?
MY 6 YR OLD SON HAS BEEN SICK WITH EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN SINCE MID NOVEMBER. I HAVE DONE ALOT OF RESEARCH TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHY A HEALTHY CHILD IS NOW GETTING SICK ALOT. NO LIVING CHANGES TO CAUSE IT . YES HE STARTED KINDERGARTEN BUT STAYED SICK DURING CHRISTMAS 2 WEEK BREAK. I SWITCHED HIM TO AN ASTHAMA/ ALLERGY PEDIATRICIAN WHOM IS CONVINCED HE HAS ACTIVE ALLERGY AND ASTHMA. HE SENT US TO A SPECIALIST THIS WEEK WHOM SAYS HE MUST TAKE SINGULAIR DAILY, MIX 1 VIAL OF XOPENEX AND 1 VIAL OF BUDESONIDE IN A NEBULIZER EVERY NIGHT AND NASAL SPRAY DAILY. HE IS TO START TAKING IMMUNOTHERAPY SHOTS NEXT FRIDAY EVERY WEEK. AND ON THE OTHER HAND THEIR IS AN LOCAL HERBALIST WHOM SAYS IT IS MOLD IN THE BODY. HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER HAS ALLERGIES AND A COUSIN WHOM HAS HAD ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA. I AM SCARED OF ALL THESE MEDS GOING IN HIS BODY. HE IS A VERY ACTIVE OTHERWISE HEALTHY CHILD, HE LOVES TO PLAY SPORTS. ANY THOUGHTS, OR PROFESSIONAL COMMENTS PLEASE.

A: Personally as a mother of a child with anaphylaxis, asthma and other allergy conditions and an ICU nurse, I would be more scared of the herbalist and his remedies. An asthma/allergy ped is specifically trained to treat his condition. Drugs such as singulair, and the nebs/nasal spray have been EXTENSIVELY tested in large trails to determine their effectiveness-drugs (drops/supplements whatever they like to call them) used by herbalists are NOT extensively tested (extensively used yes!) for effectiveness/side effects etc.(ask for evidence on their effectiveness-see if there are large (1000’s) numbers studied-are they backed up by similar research studies).
Just because a treatment is described an ‘natural’ doesn’t mean it is safe or the best option-especially in the case of allergies and asthma-it is something that needs to be managed by a trained professional (allergy specialist).
The other thing to be careful of is mixing treatments-what one (herbalist) can give you could counteract what the allergist is prescribing so always check with the allergist if they are ok to give.
What it sounds like from your opening statement is that your child is sick because his asthma is not controlled. Sometimes it does take a bit of manipulation before you get the right levels of medications to control the asthma.
For us (7yo boy) we have found the singulair has been great for his asthma (exercise induced) and the daily nasal sprays are vital to manage the asthma (non congested nose=good filtering capacity for allergens=less asthma-you need to have good control over the nose to have any chance of fixing the asthma).
Asthma is a very serious condition that needs to be taken seriously-you sound like you have the perfect person (asthma/allergy paed) to guide you in the right direction. I would try not to muddy the waters by getting a herbalist involved-way too risky. good luck-i hope your little boy turns the corner soon.
cheers cmf

Q: Any Indian substitute for SYMBICORT TURBUHALER (budesonide/formotorel)INHALER from SWEDEN.?
It is an inhaler from Sweden with 60/120 inhaling dozes containing some inhaling powder for Asthamatic disease.
Can you pl. suggest some India made tablet or inhaler of similar value?

A: They should have this drug available in India, just from a different manufacturer.
If you can’t find it, go to the nearest pharmacy and see if there’s something comparable that will work instead.

Q: can you take a preventative inhaler(blue) a couple of hours after taking the budesonide 200mic pulmicort inhal
budesonide 200mic pulmicort inhaler ( brown)? or the other way around?
i mean the blue one is the reliever inhaler and the brown is the steroid preventer inhaler

A: Firstly, the blue inhaler is usually a reliever rather than a preventer. It can be taken at any time either before or after budesonide if needed. If planning to take both at the same time, it is better to use the blue one first to open up the airways so that the steroid (budesonide) can get in to where it is needed.

Q: Can my inhaler cause muscle spasms and cramps?
I take Symbicort (Budesonide and eformoterol), 6 doses a day. I’ve been suffering from strained muscles and cramps, sometimes just when I’m reaching for something.
I’m sure it’s the inhaler cos it started 3 years ago when I started taking it, I stopped taking it for a year and the spasms stopped, now I’m back on it and they’re back. I’m convinced it’s the puffer, but my Doc says it’s not.
Are muscle spasms a side effect of this drug?

A: I’m sorry that some people feel the need to give nasty or smart remarked answers.

Yes, one of the side effect of this turbo-inhaler is muscle cramps and or shaking. You should make your doctor aware that you have them just so he knows.

If the cramps bother you trememdously, please do not discontinue this medication without his directions on exactly how to do it though. It is never wise to just suddenly stop and asthma medication.

Q: I am having cough for more than two months. i am copd patient. doctors tried all allopathic drugs. no cure.?
can any body suggest any herbal, homeopathy or avervedic medicines. thanks in anticipation. i get soapy bubbly sputum. i am already taking budesonide inhaler 2 puff thrice daily.

A: Have they tried a medication such as Nexium for acid reflux?

For many patients, a cough is their only symptom

In the US you can get a similar drug, omperazole, over the counter.

Q: Anyone know if Benadryl is OK to take with asthma inhalers?
I take inhalers for asthma (specificaly Budesonide and Ventolin) and also suffer from eczema. I was considering taking Benadryl to try to sort out the eczema, and I was wondering if it was OK to take alongside my inhalers?

Also, I was thinking about getting a allergy test if that doesn’t work, but apparently the NHS waiting list for one is very long, anybody know if that’s true? Private ones look a bit expensive

A: Sounds to me like you’ve got the Big Three: asthma, allergies and eczema. I feel your pain, my mouth-breathing, heavy-panting, itchy brother or sister!

I suffer from all three of these things, and I use Benadryl all the time. Not just for allergies, either. Sometimes I take a half a pill to help me go to sleep. Did you know they put some of the same ingredients in Benadryl as they do Tylenol PM? Both make you sleepy.

Anyway, there’s no chance this allergy drug with conflict with your inhalers. I’ve been on proventil, albuterol and the advair diskus since I was about 4, and I’ve never had any problems.

I’ve never had an allergy test done before, but I had a girlfriend who did once. Her mom’s insurance covered it and she said it didn’t hurt too much.

Q: Whats wrong with me? Any medical ideas? Sjogrens?
I have numerous symptoms which may/not be related but they make everyday life a chore. Can anyone tell me if they think these are related or if it sound slike i might have sjogrens?
I need lots sleep 10-11 hrs at night and a nap afternoon, itchy sore red eyes, dry nose and mouth, dry cough, spitting up flem, vaginal dryness, some lethargy, problems with concentration, dry patches on arms, regular sinus problems and sore throats, sinus headaches, regular thrush, regular conjunctivitis and regular bleeding gums and mouth ulcers. I also ahve hayfever and lost allergies.
My GP says i dont have astma but i take ventolin inhalers and budesonide which stop my dry cough and the flem and a nasal steroid for my nose but as soon as i stop taking them they come back. I take antihistamines most days too.
Please help if anyone has any ideas much appreciaed as im not even really sure where to start with what to say to dr…

A: Forget the miracle crap, hon, listed above… just a good way to separate you from your money.

Before seeing your next doc, do some investigation of your own. Are your sinus problems related to the season, pollens, etc.?? That you have thrush (I’m assuming in your mouth) indicates that your immune system isn’t working properly.

Begin with diet… lots of people have allergies that show up in the weirdest ways. Most allergists suggest that you eliminate a diet problem with starting from scratch… a chore to be sure.
Begin with nothing but lamb and whole grain rice for a week (as well, be sure that there are not things in your environment that are setting things off)

Then add one thing to that every three days — of course keep a diary.

Many people have allergies to strawberries, melons, pork to name a few…. wheat, dairy products peanuts are all big ones as well. (You may be taking medicines that knock down one thing, only to cause something else to occur…)

If you add too many things too quickly, you may not be able to pin point your exact problem(s).

So your investigation can start from exposure to a few things, and increase to find your problem, as suggested above or you can stay where your are with your present exposures, and add things that help most people….

Several things for sure you ought to do… eliminate white things from your diet… sugar, corn sweeteners which are in most soft drinks, white flower, white bread, cakes, pies, anything, really, that is man made. Buy the book by Andrew Weil, MD called The Anti-inflammatory Diet… He’s no nut case, Harvard trained, and well thought of in the field. It may be that you have genetic markers for Shoengrin’s or other conditions that you may indeed be able to control by diet. Many physicians are now recommending that you use a probiotic…expensive, but at least over the counter… Align is one, and Culturelle is another… capsules that contain good bacteria that you need for proper digestion. Most docs as well suggest that you eliminate all saturated fats from your diet, eat more veggies that you steam, and fruits. Use olive oil on your salids, not a salad dressing… Eggs are a good source of fatss, and protein if you have no allergy to them…. do some research to see if milk products are setting you off, and be sure your elimination is daily — stool softeners, magnesium oxide, with lots of water… (2-3 tabs several times per day with lots of water). Steak, fatty meats, fried things, fast foods etc, ought to be eliminated. You can lower your cholesteral by 30 point in less than two months if your breakfast is 1/4 c boiled Scottish oats (steel cut oats) with some milk (test first) blue berries, walnuts, ground flax seed meal (also see if you have a nut allergy before you begin using this food as well)

You didn’t tell me your age, weight, level of activity, what kind of job you do, what your exposures are to plant materials, or household chemicals, or much else, so I’m a bit stranded. Write if you have questions.

Q: Asthma/Bronchitis?
I am currently taking 1000mg of Clarythromycin and was given Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol) as an inhaler. Have to take the antibiotic for a week. Will this be good enough to cure my asthma/bronchitis? I am really worried ….

A: The Biaxin is for the bronchitis. Its an antibiotic, It should clear it up.

As for the asthma you can’t cure it, only manage it. That is what the Symbicort is for. You have to take it twice a day 12 hours apart to prevent symptoms of asthma. It is NOT a rescue inhaler, PLEASE do not use it as such. Ask your doc about Albuterol for fast acting relief.

Good luck and have a nice day!

Q: 10 month old coughing!!! Please help!!?
Hello, good morning

Aiden woke up coughing really bad with a dry cough and is wheezing. He has no fever. Started maybe because my nephew has been here since thursday last week because he is sick so since he doesn’t go to school, we watch him My nephew went to the drs on Monday and my sister said the dr took xrays to check from pneumonia and he saw something so he prescribed him antibiotics. When I looked up symptoms for pneumonia, my son or nephew doesn’t really have symptoms for it. They both have asthma.

I really hope this (pneumonia)is NOT what my son is. About 4/5 months ago, Aiden had a cough and was wheezing… so our pedi prescribed him pro-air with a inhaler and albuterol and budesonide breathing treatments for coughing and wheezing.

We just called the pedi’s office and left a voice mail so we are waiting for a phone call back.

I already gave him the pro air a little bit ago and my husband is giving him the albuterol and I haven’t heard in my cough. I hope it’s okay to give him this even though the dr didn’t give me the okay yet.

Advice please? Should I stop the breathing treatments until I get drs permission?

(He told us, if we ever had breathing problems again with him to automatically use them.)

I fed him a bottle and he spit it uptwicewithin 15 mins

I really don’t know what to do

A: My son is 10mths and his name is Aidan too!!

Anyway, lol, i would give the inhalers as you deem necessary.
did your doctor write an action plan for your to refer to at home? My daughter is asthmatic and she has an action plan we can look at to see what we should be doing

but if at anytime you think his breathing is being threatened in anyway then take him straight to hosp or call an ambulance. Respitory distress is not a good thing.

Watch the dip in his throat, make sure it is not being sucked right in with each breath.
Check his pulse and if his heartrate is really going very very fast
Check his tummy – look at the space on the sides of his belly just under his ribs. If that space is really getting sucked in with each breath or you can see the space between ribs being sucked in with each breath then also take him to a doc

Pneumonia must have a temperature as it is an infection so i don’t think this is your sons problem.

If you are at all worried take him to a hospital. Babies with possible respitory distress are always taken care of first

good luck

Q: Is this medicine advisable for My 7 Yrs Old son?
Am from India. My 7Yrs old Son often gets cold cough or dry cough. He is allergic with dust and sudden climatic change. In some rare occasion he will have a very minimal wheezing (No one can say without the help of stethoscope) .
Le’me come to the point, Our Doctor recommends him a inhaler capsule. Name of the capsule is:
“Foracort 100″ rotacaps.
Which Contains:
Dihydrate IP………….. 6 mcg
Budesonide IP……….. 100 mcg
Excipient……………… q.s
Approved colours used in empty capsiules.

All i need is, I wanna know
1. Is this capsule (Inhaler) advisable for my kid? I use to give this to him only when he have Cough.
2. Will this cause any side effect? I wont give any othe medicine along with this.
3. I understood that steroid medicines are not advisable. Is this a steroid medicine? Will this harm him?
4. Since my doctor will be travelling frequently, I use to give this to him only when he gets cough. And I will give him 2 times a day for 2 days, It will cure his cough with in one day.

Anticipating answers from specialists. Help me please………….

A: 1. Perfectly fine for children 12 months old to 8 years old – though it will need to be taken routinely during periods of sickness (it quells inflammation over a period of days).

2. Very mild side effects when used short term.

3. This is an inhaled steroid which is safe for use in children to prevent and treat respiratory inflammation, bronchitis, asthma, allergies among other things. The side-effects are more pronounced in someone taking this drug for months and years.

4. In the USA, the prescribing directions are “one inhalation twice daily for a period of 7-10 days” – it may not cure a cough in one day though – it depends on what is causing the cough.

Q: Severe Asthma, Medications not working..?
I have been seeing a Critical Care Lung Specialist for over a year & about 1 year ago & 6 months ago i had Mucus plugs in my lungs and i had a bronchoscopy. Well last month i had the same problem & they again did the bronchoscopy & removed several mucus plugs. *I seem to be getting a lot of mucus* I have seen the doctor every week for the last month to try to get my asthma under control. He has hit me with a very high dose of steroids, (20 mg. prednisolone). I have my home Nebulizer with 3 treatments a day, I have been on many different inhalers & medications i use a spacer. (Flovent, Advair, Atrovent, prednisone, methylprednisolone, hydrocortisone, Budesonide, Zileuton, Serevent, albuterol, Symbicort, Methotrexate & Asmanex, ect)
I take Singulair & Theophylline pills daily. He has changed my medications many times in the last year & my body isn’t responding to anything. He wanted to put me back in the hospital for treatment but i talked him out of it until after Thanksgiving weekend. I go back in Monday morning. Has anyone else had this problem? He told me i am lacking oxygen. I can’t hardly make it through work. I pass out if i stand up for more than 5 minutes. I am having what he calls Bronchospasms.. I take all my meds like i am supposed to. Why would my body be rejecting the treatments? My tongue has ulcers from the steroids & i have a ton of bruises from it. I am so sick of the steroids. They seem to be hurting me more than they are helping me..
The thing i hate is my white cell count is high now last time i was in the hospital it was 38. They told me to see a hematologist. I think it is the steriods doing it.

A: Ive been told to take Prednisolone. Did you/have you experience(ed) any unwanted side effects?

Please answer my question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnrZx3RtrG4W6tSL1iP57lLsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081128003956AANtqHz

Anticipating answers from specialists. Help me please………….

A: The active ingredient in the capsule is Budesonide. The stabilizing agent is the dihydrate. IP means that it meets a certain standard but I’m only familiar with USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) standard. (I think IP is the Japanese standard)

Anyways, Buedesonide is a steroid and it works by controlling the inflammation in the lungs that is limiting your child’s breathing. First i’m going to explain why it is important to continue using this drug then I will go over the cautions.

Budesonide takes a couple days before it actually starts working. It is not a rescue medication. Rescue medications include bronchodilators such as ventolin (salbutamol) but if you use those too much, you child can become tolerant to the drug (need more drug to exact an effect). You want the budesonide to control the inflammation/congestion in the lungs because if the inflammation gets out of control, his breathing will be compromised and he will cough and would require the rescue drug. Excessive inflammation also damages lung tissue.

The precautions, budesonide is known as a glucocorticoid meaning that it mimics the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol pretty much shuts down the immune system but then again, thats how it works. Inflammmation is caused by an overactive immune system, therefore the steroid controls it. So the biggest precaution with steroid use is that it can make him more prone to a chest infection or if he already has a chest infection, it will take longer for him to recover. If the drug manages to get into the blood stream, he will be more susceptible for infections elsewhere.

Long term side effects are nasty especially if it gets into the blood stream and they include increase blood sugar levels (increase change of diabetes), increase cholesterol, blood pressure, cancer etc…

Note, these are long term side effects with EXCESSIVE use. There is a balance between short term and long term use. Asthmatics are on these medications for life but they aren’t dying off in crowds.

My best advice to you is to use this drug how it is intended to be used.
Balance out risk vs benefits. In your case I will keep using the drug each day for a couple months and stop after when the weather changes again. Use the drug only in time periods when his wheezing bouts are the worst and continue using it when he starts to improve and a couple days afterwards, then off.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me

A: yes Budesonide is a steroid.
please do not give steroids to children as it has dangerous side effects in the long run.

Q: can i give budesonide inhalation suspension to my 2 year old in a breathing machine for her asthma?
My 2 year old daughter was just recently diagnosed with asthma but it only acts up when she gets a bad cold so i try to get her started on albuterol treatments at the first sign of a cold because ive been through this with my now 8 year old son. My son was given the budesonide inhalation suspension the last time he was in the hospital he still has a whole box of it but he only had to use it for a couple days after he left the hospital so ive been giving it to him when he gets a cold also and it seems to work well it has kept him out of the hospital, so now that my daughter is suffering with a bad cough i wanted to start her on the treatment as well to try to keep her out of the hospital.

A: It is not a fast acting drug, so the results from it will be minimal (if at all) and the purpose of the steroid (to decrease inflammation of the lungs) takes time to build up in the system.

Let me ask you this…..are you using the “Blow-by” technique of giving her nebulizers? (putting the tubing in front of her face and blowing it at her) because that technique is useless. When using the blow-by technique for giving a nebulizer the recipient only receives about 5% of the medication which of course = a waste. Make her wear a mask or the BEST solution possible is to teach her to use the mouth piece or corrugated tubing attached to the nebulizer directly in her mouth. Make sure you are rinsing the nebulizer often also because after using it a few times it will get a build up of albuterol concentrate which will not nebulize properly.

Good luck and as always, don’t ever risk it too much with kids because when they get sick they can go from bad to worse in the blink of an eye. Taking her to the doctor or hospital is always smart.

Looking for more information about Allergies and Asthma? Try budesonide formoterol for more information.

Q: Why a have to paid my medication , now that I have plan D, before was free now it will cost me $ 60.00@ month?
I used Formoterol/budesonide nebulizations, was cover by part B.
my plan D is with Humana.

A: As far as I know, Plan B is supposed to continue to pay for the medicines they were already paying for. Plan D doesn’t pay a whole lot on nebulizer medications, but if you still have the Plan B (which is what covers durable medical equipment, some medical supplies, diabetes testing supplies, and certain nebulizer medications), then they should continue to pay as they have been. The addition of Plan D shouldn’t make a difference on that. If your provider is charging you more, they may have billed it through the wrong plan. You might question it. I know where I work, it is a lot easier to bill through Plan D (especially Humana) than Plan B, so I really could easily see how it could happen. I could be wrong, of course, as I’ve been off work for quite a while with my sick daughter, so maybe they changed something….. Good luck to you.

Good Luck!

Q: Singulair v. Allegra?
Hey I used to use Claritan/Reactine for my allergies but they stopped working. So the doctor recommended Singulair…for the past two years I’ve gotten them free from the doctor. I’ve run out and really can’t afford to pay $80 for 10 pills especially since I need to take them everday. Are there any cheaper brands ppl know of that work just as well? I’ve heard Allegra used to be a prescription before becoming an over the counter drug. Does it work as well as singulair or better than reactine and such?? I’ve also had the shot…which works but the doctor doesn’t recommend it since it stays in the bloodstream for too long she said :S

A: from personal experience allegra did not help me at all but try it you may find it works for you

Q: Allegra vs. Zyrtec question?
My Rx for Allegra 180mg just ran out, and I can’t afford to go back to the doctors right now. Do you think it would be okay to switch to OTC Zyrtec? Or should I just call my doctor and ask for a refill
Also, even if I do call my doctor, it would be cheaper for me to take the generic OTC Zyrtec than Allegra. The thing is that Allegra really has helped me… are they practically the same drug and should I just give Zyrtec a try?
Thanks in advance for any insight/experiences.

A: They are different drugs but they are both antihistamines. I personally found that zyrtec worked MUCH better for me than allegra, but everyone responds differently to medication.

You can call your doctor and usually they will just phone a refill into the pharmacy, unless they have concerns about your condition.

Or you might want to give the zyrtec a try for a few weeks and see how it works for you

Not sure how much you pay for allegra, but here I get a generic brand of zyrtec at Sam’s Club – $18 for 350 tablets!!! That lasts a year and is the cheapest I’ve ever seen it. The next cheapest is the Walmart generic, 45 pills for $14. So you can compare and see which would be more cost effective for you.

Q: Allegra-D vs. Claritin-D? Generic Allegra-D?
Hi!

I’ve got all kinds of allergies (all pollen and animal hair, basically), and the congestion due to the allergies lead to frequent sinus infections. Because of this, my doctor has been prescribing Allegra-D (12 hour tablet) for years.

Soon, a new year of my health insurance will begin, and that also means I have to pay a high deductible, so I’d like to figure out if it would be cheaper to switch to Claritin-D.

Does someone have experience switching from Allegra-D to Claritin-D?

Is Claritin-D 12 hour or 24 hour better?

About how much do you pay for a month’s worth of Claritin-D (i.e. 60 tablets for 12 hour tablets, 30 tablets for 24 hour tablets), if you don’t mind my asking?

Are there any other products that combine a non-drowsy antihistamine and a decongestant that you can recommend?

Thank you in advance for your help.

A: I am allergic to nature, and have tried every antihistamine on the market.

First, antihistamines are formulated primarily to take care of indoor, or outdoor allergens, or a somewhat random combination of both. It helps to know what your allergies are, and you seem to know, so you’re good there.

Allegra-D is OUTSTANDING at taking care of most of my indoor AND outdoor allergies, although is formulated more towards outdoor allergens. No drowsiness.

Claritin-D is OK at taking care of some of my outdoor and some of my indoor allergies – and is primarily formulated to take care of indoor allergens. Mild drowsiness with some people. Claritin comes in both 12 and 24 hour dosing, but the 12 works approximately 8-12 hours, whereas the 24 works approximately 12 hours .

Zyrtec – recently OTC (over the counter) – is GOOD at taking care of outdoor allergens, and is primarily formulated to take care of outdoor – with some indoor allergen benefits, however Zyrtec’s formulation causes moderate – extreme drowsiness for many – which is no fun.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the approximate cost however, as I haven’t had insurance for years, and because I’m in Texas – I just take a 2 hour drive over the border, avoid the doctors fee for an office call, and I get it all without a prescription – and significantly cheaper.

My allergist suggested Advil (TM) Cold & Sinus for supplementing antihistamines, and for doing a little decongestant work – and I’ve had to use it faithfully for about 20 yrs now.

For my respiratory system and allergy problems, I’d rather pay through the nose for Allegra-D because I know it works, works well, and doesn’t make me drowsy. In my opinion, a small cost savings would NOT make me switch. I like to breathe .

What you really need to ask yourself is: Just how important is breathing, and what am I willing to pay.

Q: Should i buy my new all season tires now or later?
I need to get 2 new goodyear allegra tires for the spring season when it hits. The tires are on sale right now at canadian tire, its $90 per tire from $120. should i get it now or wait till spring comes? will it be cheaper then or no?

A: how bald are your tires? if they put them on sale once they will put them on sale again

Q: Do I pay forever?
7 years ago, I was arrested in Corsicana Texas . I was arrested for drugs I had a script for from Mexico, but I didn’t kow it was illegal in the states. They told me it was legeal in Mexico when I saw the Dr. I got the scripts filled and they let me past the first 2 check points. They searched my belongings and waved me on. I was pulled over in Corsicana just south of Dallas for speeding. I was doinf 10 miles over the speed lmit. The drugs I had were Allegra, antibotisc, and sommas. The drugs are cheap in Mexico and I got enough for some of the people AI know that can’t go see a dr, let alone pay for the meds. The cop insisited he was going to search my car. O.K. I had a 3/4 pound of pot for my use. Sure I knew it was against the law, but I also thought they needed an excuse to go thru your car. I use the pot for different things, but only in my house. It cost ne the loss of my husband, 7 thousand dollars, five yrs proabation. Now they want more. Do I have to pay forever?
I live in Nebraska. They can’t decide for fear they are stepping on Texas toes. I am already dead, why can’t they let me alone. I did my time.
i don’t need smart ass answers, 10 days after I was arrested my husband died. That is all i have done in my whole misable life, i can see you guys aren’t goning to help. Hope you never do anything wrong in your lifetime, or maybe you like throwing stones at gllass houses. And the one that don’t know what my question is, stop toking and read the heading.
Jerry, you are right, it is a feloney and I don’t lie. I could have left out the part about pot!
Hope none of you live in glass houses!
i am retired. So jobs are no problem for me. What I want to use for medicine in my own body is no ones business but my own. That includes they jaw. I paid dearly for it and they can watch me all they want too. Who cares? NO ONE!!
Robert , You are right! There are MAN made substances that are soooooo much better than I use. The side effects are sooooo much better than the disease themselves. I like feeling sick to my stomach, diarrea, high blood pressure, bleeding ulcers, and they are to many to mention. Law can’t make any money on pot, that is why that it is against the law! DUH!!!
Well, thanks for all the compassion I got from here. Hope you never get in trouble ever. If I am lucky, I will fall dead, sure have been preying for it, but that won’t happen. God is a man too.

A: Yes … you may had a script for your meds in Mexico and yes it is only legal after the 2nd check point , after this it becomes illegal … this is a fact and it stinks worse then a sewer! It is sad not everyone can see a doctor let alone afford the medications they need. Although the government can by drugs for anywhere and have no script for them … the government is a dictatorship … do as I say not as I do!
The Pot was for your own use … for arthritis, sickness to the stomach, glucoma, induce hunger, and a few cancer treatments although the government allows this in treatment centers and by pill form … like I said dictatorship!
If you were not selling it I believe it should of been left alone.
Just my beliefs! The indain tribes use things that only if the government was allowed to metal with would charge them too. These tribes have done this for decades and are excempt from the government metalling! What more do they want? Why? Have you contacted a lawyer about this?
You lost your husband, money, voters rights, and yourself.
People have done murders and gotten alot less. Dictatorship!
This country was once land of the free … not no more! Now they band smoking … yet they still sell it. Stepping on the smokier’s right … the right of life style … there is a law about that. just no smoker’s rights. They need to pick on the drinkers, as they kill more then a smoker. Next the government will be picking on the overweight people. Before you know it if you work in the medical profession you will have to be a certain weight as they will probably say the medical profession reflects on the workers and they have to be fit as an example that they are representing health or so more bull crap! If smoking causes health problems then so does over weight people chance health problems! Drinking causes health related problems too. Give me a break!!!!!
It will not stop … the government is turning this free land into a dictatorship! Do what you have to do. Keep copies of everthing. Sell your place and move somewhere in the middle of no where. Go out when you have to and stock up on like can goods or goods that you can. Plant you a garden and keep animals around for protection and post no tresspassing signs all around you. You may be alone this way but, you will be left alone!

Q: How difficult is it to live with a cat when you have allergies?
I’m moving in with some new roommates next year and one of them has a brand new cat. My allergies are pretty much limited to itchy pallet, running nose watery eyes, nothing really severe, but not something I can live with untreated for the next couple of years.

I’ve spent a substantial amount of (overnight) time at houses with cats but their houses were most likely alot cleaner than what our house of 5 college students will quickly become. Benadryl also helped alot in those situations, but that isn’t something I can take everyday.

I’d love to hear opinions anyone has on daily allergy medication (claritin, reactine, allegra), or anything else you do to survive with your allergies. I work at a pharmacy and you don’t need a prescription for most extra strength allergy medications, as well I can get the generic medications for quite cheap compared to over the counter prices so taking pills everyday certainly isn’t out of the question.

A: Most allergy meds don’t treat “indoor” allergies, like cats and dust mites. They mostly treat allergies to pollens and outdoor issues.

Except Zyrtec. I take zyrtec for my cat allergies, and it is the only medication that has helped me against cats. I don’t get itchy skin, or runny nose or itchy eyes, and can actually pet a cat.

However (I married a man with a cat, and cant’ ask him to get rid of it, besides it kills mice) after a long time of LIVING with a cat (as opposed to being exposed at friend’s houses) I actually developed asthma. Even with the zyrtec, which controls any skin reactions I have, I now use an inhaler. I never needed one before. I am at the point now where even though my skin reaction is fine, my asthma gets worse every year. Being exposed to a cat that I am allergic to has compromised my immune system, and I may have to start taking an asthma preventative, instead of a rescue inhaler. I wouldn’t suggest living with a cat if you don’t have to. It’s really not worth it.

I am not sure if allergy shots are more successful, and can prevent the onset of asthma related to allergies. I haven’t tried the shot route yet, but it looks like I may. I wish we didnt have a mouse problem in our house, because I wouldn’t replace this cat when he passes away. The health issues just don’t seem worth it.

Q: Is it allegeries?
I always have a sinus headache my eyes feel like they could pop out of my head. My nose drains into my throat or gets stuck. This has gone on for 2 years. MY ? is is this allergies to where I could take Claritin D or something cheaper Sinus meds make me to dizzy and allegra d did not work Doc says just take sinus pills

A: Depending on the time of year you experience this, I would say it IS allergies due to pollen. And if it occurs all year, then you might also be allergic to dust, etc. Best thing to do, buy some Claritin D to begin with, and take it. I know it makes you dizzy, but your body will eventually get used to the medication and that should subside. See if it works, and if not, find a different doctor and make an appointment and go see him. It might be something different. Hope this helps!
